Emergency Management British Columbia (EMBC) is the province's lead coordinating agency for all disaster management activities. As such, EMBC works directly with local governments, First Nations, provincial ministries, federal departments and volunteers in the areas of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.

The Disaster Risk Reduction Analyst works to support and improve provincial resilience to and preparedness for emergency events in alignment with UN Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The Disaster Risk Reduction Analystis a subject matter expert in disaster risk reduction and disaster risk management, and develops plans and preparedness strategies that seek to reduce disaster risk and manage residual risk, including leading and working with internal and external partners on cross-government preparedness initiatives. As a member of the Disaster Risk Management Division, Disaster Preparedness Branch, the Disaster Risk Reduction Analystleads and participates in the development and maintenance of all-hazard and hazard-specific plans, strategic policies, operational procedures, and tools and resources to support emergency management partners. The Disaster Risk Reduction Analystis a critical component of provincial disaster risk and emergency management leadership and direction, providing long term vision, goals, and strategies.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Undergraduate degree (or higher) in a related discipline (e.g. emergency management, business administration, public administration, political science, law, social sciences, geography) PLUS two years related* experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Related* experience must include all of the following:
  • Experience building relationships with internal and external officials/professionals and other partners.
  • Experience researching and developing briefing materials, reports, programs, policies, services, projects, and/or plans.
  • Experience working effectively with multiple projects and assignments.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience specific to the fields of disaster risk reduction, disaster risk management, and/or emergency management.

Candidates must be willing and able to:
  • Be available to respond to regional emergencies and disasters 24/7.
  • Be able to travel to other regions to assist or lead the response to emergencies and disasters within those regions.
