The Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions leads the Province of British Columbia in efforts to improve the mental well-being and reduce substance use-related harms for all British Columbians. The ministry has overall responsibility for the development of a coherent, accessible, and culturally safe mental health and addictions system that is effective for individuals and families across the lifespan throughout the province. The ministry is also responsible for escalating an immediate response to the province's overdose emergency. The ministry aims to strengthen social supports and services that impact mental health and well-being (for example, housing, employment, income, education, and childcare) byundertaking a whole-government, multi-systems approach in partnership with other ministries, service delivery partners, researchers, other levels of government, families, youth, people with lived experience, and Indigenous peoples.

The Strategic Policy and Partnerships Branch is responsible for leading complex, high-profile strategic initiatives that cut across sectors and government ministries, such as Complex Care Housing.

These positions will work as part of a motivated, high-performing team to creatively address complex social policy issues that affect some of the most vulnerable individuals in our communities - including mental health, addictions, and their intersections with housing and homelessness, community-based emergency response, and impacts on policing and public safety.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Degree in business or public administration, or health sciences, social sciences, or related field and a minimum of 2 years progressive and recent related* experience. (If master's degree is obtained, then a minimum of 1 year of progressive and recent related* experience is required); OR
  • Diploma in business or public administration, or health sciences, social sciences, or related field and a minimum of 3 years progressive and recent related* experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered*.

*Progressive and recent related experience must include:
  • Experience researching policy issues and conducting policy analysis,and/or preparing and providing advice and recommendations on policy and programs.
  • Experience developing non-regulatory tools and approaches such as guidance documents, toolkits or performance indicators.
  • Experience leading and successfully completing planning and coordinating components of complex projects with working groups/committees /programs. Experience building collaborative relationships with multiple partners to develop and support implementation of policies, programs, and initiative.

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:
  • Experience in analysis of issues related to mental health and/or problematic substance use, health promotion, prevention or harm reduction, public health and/or other social service policies, programs, or initiatives.
  • Experience working with First Nations, Métis or Inuit organizations and communities.
  • Lived or living experience of, or experience working with populations with, complex health and social challenges.
  • Self-identify as having First Nations, Métis or Inuit heritage.
