This temporary five-month full-time position will support the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants program at Douglas College as it experiences a period of high activity. The position will be based in Burnaby Training Centre however travel between offices is required.

The Role
The Community Liaison role is to support applicant screening and intake activities while also building relationships with employers for the Career Paths Stream 1 Health and Education & Social Services programs. They will also work closely with core staff to develop and support guest speaker engagements relevant to client needs within specific occupational groups served.

Responsibilities

The Community Liaison will:
    •Assist with program marketing, recruitment and applicant screening; •Assist in moderating information sessions; •Plan, organize and support guest speakers including occupational specific subject matter experts, regulatory body or professional association representatives or employers; •Provide technical assistance during workshops or guest speaker activities; •Provide coverage for team members including facilitation for in class sessions as needed; •Participate in regular program team meetings; •Review client outcomes against performance targets, contribute strategies to ensure program targets are met, participate in strategic planning and program review sessions as scheduled; •Provide backup case management as needed which includes 1-1 assessment, action planning and follow up to support clients on pathway to licensure and/or employment the same or similar occupation to that which they held pre-landing; •Foster positive, productive working relationships and work collaboratively to contribute to a positive work environment based on mutual respect; •Participate in Training Group's Quality Management System; •Perform other duties as assigned.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
    •Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and marketing experience; •Minimum two years' experience in employment services with evidence of having planned and organized employer events and guest workshops; •Knowledge of current local and provincial labour market information and options for skilled immigrant job seekers; •Demonstrated understanding of the barriers facing skilled immigrant job seekers within the Career Paths Stream 1 occupations served; •Able to identify and address client needs; •Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills; •Demonstrated ability to meet targeted outcomes; •Strong organizational and time management skills; •Proven ability to network with employers, business and industry and through professional associations; •Advanced digital technology proficiency; •Proven ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team with capacity to take initiative and calmly handle changing circumstances; •Travel within the Lower Mainland is required: access to a vehicle and valid BC Driver's license or reliable alternative transportation.
