The Ministry of Citizens' Services performs a dynamic, corporate leadership role in government to support the development of an innovative, modern and robust technology environment; to improve accessible and responsive services and information to citizens; and to provide enabling infrastructure for ministries and the broader public sector to transform how government works on a day-to-day basis.

The Government Digital Experience (GDX) division supports ministries to run public engagements initiatives, service and content design projects, citizen facing websites and several other information technology solutions for modernizing government. GDX often supports high-profile government initiatives, such as CleanBC, Child Care, Housing and has played a key role supporting government COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.

The Service and Content Design Team works across government to support ministries in the design and delivery of inclusive, accessible and equitable service experiences for people in British Columbia. This team takes an evidence-based approach to the design of citizen experiences, applying research, design and evaluation methodologies to all aspects of both digital and non-digital services, information and policy. In this work, GDX aims to build service and content design capacity with the teams we work with. We're a diverse but tight-knit team of design professionals including interaction designers, researchers, service designers and content writers and strategists.

As Content Design Lead, your leadership and expertise will help British Columbians access government services through the creation of high-value, accessible and inclusive online content.

This position ensures that B.C.'s digital service and information content is user-focused and aligned with corporate strategies and standards. Your approach to content design will include user experience (UX) methodologies, web content development, information architecture, search engine optimization, plain language and accessibility best practices.

Your people and project management skills help deliver measurable results on projects, while building content design and web writing capacity across government. You excel at working within a team and providing leadership on user-research, content design approaches and web content development.

This position provides content design support on a variety and rotating file of high-priority initiatives across government. It may provide support to the COVID-19 web response on The Content Design team holds the pen on key pandemic web content, such as provincial restrictions, economic recovery programs and the immunization plan. This unpredictable work requires a high degree of flexibility on timelines/workflow and attention to detail as priorities and deadlines can change quickly.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Degree or diploma in User Experience Design, English, Library Science, Computer Science, or related field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience in each of the following:
    • Experience practicing user experience design, planning and managing web properties including experience in information architecture, content development and interaction design.
    • Experience writing and editing content for the web, including working with technical and scientific content.
    • Experience working with a website content management system.
    • Experience with communications, relationship building, research, web writing and planning skills.
    • Experience adapting to changing current trends in online service delivery with a focus on improving services for citizens and stakeholders.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Experience with CMS Lite.
  • Experience with BC Writing for the Web Guides and BC Design System.
