WSP has a new opportunity for Senior Coastal Engineers to join our Water Management team on a full-time basis (Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Greater Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, or St John's preferred). As a Senior Coastal Engineer, you will provide engineering and coastal zone and marine development solutions for multi-disciplinary civil, geotechnical, and mining projects across Canada, and internationally. Your role will include leading teams, mentoring more junior staff, and providing planning, engineering, nature-based design, climate change, and construction expertise for water resources, civil engineering, and environmental projects in multiple sectors. You will join a growing water resources team based in multiple locations across Canada.

A day in the life...
  • Participating with a variety of environmental, geoscience and engineering projects from the proposal stage through planning, design and construction;
  • Leading or managing multi-disciplinary project teams, collaborating and working efficiently with engineers, scientists, and managers at all levels, and communicating effectively with clients;
  • Conducting studies and analyses related to the engineering, planning, design, and development for new and existing marine projects, both large and small, including layout and wave sheltering considerations, characterization of environmental conditions, project tendering, construction, and operations;
  • Application of state-of-the-art coastal engineering design techniques and development of sustainable strategies to address problems related to natural coastal hazards (e.g. flooding, erosion, sedimentation) and human interactions (e.g. spills, coastal structures, dredging and beneficial use, materials management) in the context of climate change and variability;
  • Leading and participating in multi-disciplinary teams to complete environmental impact assessments and implementation of coastal engineering solutions;
  • Managing multiple project deadlines, budgets, and scope changes;
  • Preparation of tender packages including drawings, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates;
  • Providing coastal engineering support during construction;
  • Developing and sustaining positive business relationships;
  • Offering innovative solutions to clients through business development initiatives;
  • Providing technical direction and mentoring to junior staff.

What you'll bring to WSP...
  • Degree in Civil or Coastal Engineering (preferably Master's or PhD);
  • 15+ years experience in the field of coastal engineering including experience with nature-based design, environmental assessments, coastal erosion and climate change risk including construction administration and site inspections for related works;
  • Demonstrated technical skills in coastal engineering and hydraulic analysis including experience using relevant modelling software;
  • You must be an engineer or geoscientist registered as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist, or eligible for immediate registration as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist, in British Columbia;
  • Have a well-developed industry network and a proven track record of developing and strengthening client relationships;
  • Good communication, leadership, problem solving, mentoring, writing, and people skills;
  • Exhibit a high degree of motivation, strategic planning, self-starting capability and able to work autonomously;
  • A team player and the ability to motivate and lead by example;
  • High ethical standards and integrity;
  • Ability to write proposals and technical reports;
