Job Summary

The Team
The Engineering Branch provides leadership and professional guidance in the delivery of the Engineering program, focusing on policy and standards development to maintain a safe provincial resource road network. The team is responsible for implementing and monitoring the program, ensuring compliance with government regulations while balancing industrial, commercial, and public use with environmental considerations.

The Role
This Engineering Technologist position is integral to supporting the district resource road network, working on engineering projects with Engineering Branch Engineers. The role involves contract management, road and bridge maintenance, resource road inspections, and design work to contribute to the program's success.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Forest Technologist, or related professional designation, with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made. Applicants who do not meet the professional requirement may be considered at a lower level, subject to confirmation of eligibility for registration as a Trainee Forest Technician (TFT) or equivalent immediately upon employment with the Ministry. Applicants must contact FPBC to confirm their eligibility.
  • Diploma, or higher, in forest technology, natural resource management, forest engineering or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:
  • Experience managing relationships with stakeholders and/or First Nations' communities.
  • Experience in project and/or contract management.
  • One (1) or more years of experience in one (1) or more of the following areas:
    o Road construction, maintenance, and deactivation; and/or,
    o Post-fire recovery and rehabilitation work; and/or,
    o Road, bridge and major structure project support.

Provisos:
  • May be required to operate a variety of field equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Driver's Class 5 Licence or equivalent.
  • Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of field work.
  • Must be willing and able to work in all/adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must comply with the safety standards of the Ministry and WorkSafe BC.

Alexis Creek is surrounded by a vast amount of trails that allow the forest to be properly explored. Alexis Creek is known for activities such as snowmobiling, skiing, fishing, horseback riding and of course, hiking. There are multiple beautiful provincial parks surrounding Alexis Creek, such as Bull Canyon and Nazko Lake.
