Department Overview

TD Small Business Banking supports the unique needs of Canadian entrepreneurs and small businesses by delivering tailored credit solutions across a broad range of lending products. The Small Business Credit Centre (SBCC) plays a critical role in enabling business growth through timely, consistent, and high-quality credit adjudication, while ensuring strong risk management and full adherence to TD's lending policies and regulatory standards.

As part of the Small Business Banking team, the Credit Manager is a senior credit subject matter expert responsible for independently adjudicating credit requests submitted by Small Business Banking Account Managers. The role supports a nationwide portfolio and reports to a Group Manager within Small Business Banking.

Job Description

The Credit Manager, Small Business Banking operates as an individual contributor and is accountable for the end-to-end adjudication of credit requests submitted by Small Business Banking Account Managers. Clients include incorporated and unincorporated small businesses across a broad range of industries, seeking credit facilities within established small business lending thresholds.

The Credit Manager applies independent credit judgment, advanced financial analysis, and sound risk assessment to deliver consistent, high-quality credit decisions aligned with TD's risk appetite, policies, and service level expectations.

Key accountabilities include:
  • Independently adjudicating credit applications within assigned lending authorities, in accordance with TD credit policies, standards, and risk appetite
  • Performing in-depth financial analysis, cash flow assessment, and credit risk evaluation to support sound lending decisions
  • Structuring credit facilities that appropriately balance customer needs, risk mitigation, security coverage, pricing, and covenant requirements
  • Reviewing, validating, and challenging due diligence materials, including financial statements, guarantees, collateral, and supporting documentation
  • Assigning and validating accurate risk ratings, ensuring consistency with policy requirements and portfolio standards
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for complex, higher-risk, or non-standard credit requests, with a focus on the Quebec and Atlantic Small Business Banking portfolios
  • Providing expert guidance and constructive challenge to Account Managers on credit structure, policy interpretation, and risk considerations
  • Identifying emerging risks, trends, or concentrations within the portfolio and proactively escalating or addressing areas of concern
  • Supporting audit, credit quality reviews, and regulatory requirements, including responding to findings and ensuring timely remediation
  • Delivering consistent, timely, and well-documented credit decisions aligned with established service level expectations

The Credit Manager supports business growth by enabling responsive credit decisions while maintaining strong credit quality, consistency, and policy adherence.

Job Requirements

In addition to an undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, the ideal candidate will have:
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent credit judgment within delegated lending authority
  • Advanced financial analysis skills, including cash flow, balance sheet, and guarantor assessment
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of credit requests while maintaining quality and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both French and English, with the ability to clearly document and explain credit decisions to business partners
  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, and a demonstrated commitment to credit quality, compliance, and risk management
  • Experience in RESL, Small Business, and/or Commercial Credit underwriting considered an asset
