The Opportunity

Build the Future With Us - As an Intermediate Materials Technician in our Whitehorse office and laboratory, you'll be at the forefront of delivering high-impact materials testing that supports infrastructure, resource development, and northern community growth across the Yukon. Your work will directly inform safe design, resilient construction, and long-term performance in one of Canada's most dynamic northern regions.

Your Impact
  • Lead and perform materials field testing assignments across Whitehorse and remote Yukon locations, ensuring accurate data collection to support geotechnical and civil engineering project decisions.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Whitehorse soil and concrete laboratory, including test execution, reporting, and equipment calibration to maintain a high-performing and safe workspace.
  • Deliver precise and timely soil, concrete, and aggregate test results that drive key project outcomes for northern clients, including First Nations partners, government agencies, and resource sector stakeholders.
  • Participate in internal and external quality programs, including audits, proficiency testing, and resolving any non-conformances in accordance with WSP quality frameworks.
  • Manage logistics for sample receiving, tracking, storage, and disposal to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project managers to problem-solve, share insights, and support innovative solutions in challenging northern environments.
  • Uphold strong health and safety practices in field and laboratory settings, contributing to a culture of safety excellence across the region.

The Skills That Set You Apart
  • You bring a diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology and have built your expertise through hands-on field and lab experience in materials testing
  • You are eligible for or hold CTech or AScT certification and maintain CCIL certifications for concrete (Cat 0) and aggregates (Type C & D).
  • You're confident working in remote northern environments and thrive in both field and laboratory settings, balancing precision with adaptability.
  • You have strong knowledge of standardized testing procedures (ASTM, AASHTO, CSA) and demonstrate proficiency with soil compaction testing (nuclear gauge) and concrete field testing.
  • You bring at least five years of experience conducting soil index testing, concrete cylinder testing, and multi-disciplinary project support.
  • Added value: familiarity with geotechnical drilling, soil characterization, and instrumentation such as slope inclinometers and vibrating wire piezometers
  • You hold a valid Canadian driver's license and communicate clearly and professionally in English.
